Volunteers in culture? Indispensable!
Without their commitment, many projects – festivals, exhibitions, concerts – wouldn’t happen. Many organizations – especially non-governmental – wouldn’t be able to function on daily basis without their help. For some it’s just the way to spend free time, gain experience. But there are also those, who are planning to continue their professional career within the cultural sector. Project 220 VOLT is meant for them! It is carried out by Fabryka Sztuki in Łódź, as a part of the long-term European project Engine Room Europe.
40 volunteers will take part in 220 VOLT! - 20 from Łódź and 20 from entire Europe. In order to participate in the project, a person must have experience in volunteering in a cultural institution/organization, be at least 18 years old and willing to host a volunteer from abroad under their own roof. In return, they can participate in an educational program run by the best coaches in Europe. The program will prepare participants for managing artistic projects.

Historically, Plato developed the notion of “Theatrum Mundi” – the Theatre of Life. It is a place where people are just puppets, actors, and their only task is to play their role. Life, on the other hand, is governed by a powerful figure, known as the creator (Demiurge, God). Nowadays, this role is assumed by mass media, which we are exposed to every day. They have an increasing influence on us, as well as on our lives and behaviours. People today are immersed in mass culture and lost between two worlds: the real world in which they live and the world created by the media.
